Abid Hussain

Abid Hussain, a seasoned librarian hailing from Mardan Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, currently holds the position of Deputy Director of Library at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI). His professional expertise encompasses a range of areas including library leadership, Digital Library services, Web-based Technology, information literacy, Bibliometrics, and information services.

Before assuming his current role, Abid served as the Digital Library in charge at the National Defence University Islamabad from April 2009 to April 2017, and before that, he worked as an Assistant Librarian at Air University Islamabad from May 2005 to September 2007.

Abid is a prolific writer, having contributed 30+ articles to esteemed journals at both national and international levels, with three more articles currently in the pipeline. Additionally, he has published over 150 columns, essays, and opinion pieces in various English newspapers, magazines, and blogs in Pakistan and beyond, maintaining a regular column in the Pakistan Observer since 2017.

In his capacity, Abid has been instrumental in designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating library instruction programs. He has also played a crucial role in mentoring fellow librarians in instructional theory and methods.

Abid earned his Master's degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan, in 2006. He also holds a Master's degree in Political Science (2011) from the same university and a B.Ed degree from Sarhad University Peshawar in 2016.

Throughout his career, Abid has spearheaded numerous projects aimed at digitizing libraries across Pakistan, showcasing his commitment to advancing access to information and knowledge. Some notable projects include:

Prior to the career in librarianship, he  taught in Private schools and colleges.
